What part does infrastructure play in wealth portfolios?

Written by Matt Robinson | Jan 14, 2026 9:47:27 AM

As private wealth investors seek diversification and resilient income streams, infrastructure investment is moving from institutional portfolios into the spotlight of wealth management strategies.

At IPEM Wealth 2026, a dedicated Infrastructure Summit will explore how advisors can navigate this evolving opportunity set—from listed versus unlisted vehicles to energy transition themes reshaping the sector.

Here's a breakdown of the topics that will be discussed.

The big picture on infrastructure

The summit opens with an on-stage interview with Cyrus Gentry (Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of SP+INFRA). Talya Misiri (Senior Report for Infralogic, ION Analytics) will ask about one of the largest independent infrastructure investors expects in the year ahead.

Why Infrastructure Matters for Wealth Portfolios

Then, we ask a fundamental question: what role does infrastructure play in wealth portfolios? Listed infrastructure has proven its ability to deliver reliable, long-term income and capital appreciation. Now, as Europe positions itself for the next wave of infrastructure investment, evergreen funds are providing access routes to non-listed infrastructure assets.

Jean-Baptiste Bourdie (Managing Partner, Otentiq Private Markets by Access Capital Partners), Octavian Popescu (Founder & CEO, ROYC), Daniel von der Schulenburg (Head of Infrastructure Germany, Benelux & Northern Europe, Ardian), and other panelists will examine how the risk-return profile differs when adding infrastructure to traditional portfolios. They’ll also explore why deal flow quality matters when advisors select funds for HNW clients, and whether evergreens that invest directly on a pro rata basis alongside GP flagships offer advantages over those reliant on primary and secondary investments.

Power, Data, and Digital Sovereignty

The AI revolution is creating unprecedented demand for digital infrastructure and the power to support it. Europe’s grid is straining to keep up, creating what many see as a defining investment opportunity.

The session “Scrutinising the investment thesis around digital sovereignty” (15:00-15:30) explores how the convergence of digital infrastructure and power generation has become a critical focus, with cumulative investment projected to reach EUR 2.5 trillion by 2030.

Francesc Martínez Bailac (Alternative Investments Director, Orilla Asset Management), Jaroslava Korpanec (Head of Central and Eastern Europe, Actis), Stig Pastwa (Senior Advisor, CIP), and moderator Charles de La Ferrière (Head of Infrastructure - M&A and Transaction Solutions - France, Aon) will dissect this rapidly evolving theme.

Finding Value in Mid-Market Infrastructure

Where does value lie in today’s mid-market infrastructure landscape? Specialised funds are capitalising on overlooked market segments that are less competitive and offer attractive value creation opportunities. The 15:30-16:00 session will dive deeper into the European opportunity set, examining typical playbooks used to deliver returns.

Speakers include Thomas Vieillescazes (Managing Partner, CVC DIF), Louis-Roch Burgard (Investment Managing Director and Co-Head of Equity Investment, Infranity), Gildas Laforge (Head of Asset Management, Touax Group), and moderator Julien Baudinaud (Partner, Accuracy).

Energy Transition as Investment Theme

Closing the Summit (16:00-16:30), industry leaders will address how to invest in the energy transition theme. Energy transition is fundamentally reshaping infrastructure investment, with thematic funds focusing on renewable energy, battery storage, EV charging, and e-mobility. Yet innovative cleantech is also part of the story—its products and services are critical to asset greening, with infrastructure playing a key role in growth.

As the lines between sectors blur, investors can deploy capital through multiple access points. Anthony Catachanas (CEO and Founding Partner, Tower Peak Partners), Dario Bertagna (Senior Managing Director, Co-Head of Clean Energy, Capital Dynamics), and Elise Vaudour (Senior Managing Director, Head of Wealth, Macquarie Asset Management) will explore the diverse range of strategies and the risk-return profiles on offer.
